Do you know that the most common cause of depression and illness is Stress?
In fact, studies show that stress can cause a lot of physical and mental problems. Even breakouts and hair fall are some of the effects that most adults experience whenever they are under stress and pressure.
I know it's impossible to live without stress, but it doesn't mean we can not take control and reduce its negative effects. Below are some suggestions that you may do, to reduce the effects of stress and have better health and lifestyle (because let's face it thinking positively and avoiding procrastination is sometimes not enough).
After a long day of work and deadlines, cuddling with your furbabies can instantly lighten your mood. Studies show that dogs and cats can actually sense and absorb negative energies. And petting them can help lower your blood pressure, reduced anxiety, calmness, and relaxation, and peace of mind
Yoga:
After a hard workday, ending it with a short meditation can help you sleep better too.
Quick Shower;
I know each of us has a preference when it comes to the water temperature for our quick shower. After a long day of work, I prefer having a cold shower while playing jazz or a love song in the bathroom. It helps me calm down and set my body for a good night's sleep.
Knowing that you have washed off all the dirt and stress away from your skin can help you relax. It can also help in lowering your body's temperature which is a good way to introduce sleep time to your body.
Long Baths;
The outside world, or even the work-from-home setup that most of us have nowadays, can be dragging and exhausting. A whole week of meetings and toxic workloads and stressful deadlines can wear you down. Ending your workweek with a relaxing long bath can help you start recharging and detaching from the stressful environment. Remember, you deserve a peaceful and relaxing time for yourself. Pour some red wine and play soothing music while you soak your tired body. It also helps if you use your favorite body wash. I recommend using peppermint and lavender, or lightly scented rose water to add the feeling of luxury to your well-deserved bath time.
Start a Journal;
Not everyone is comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas with someone else. And not everyone is blessed to have a best friend whom they can call anytime to vent to. That's why having a journal where you can write and scribble your saddest and happiest experience is a big help and a great stress reliever. Writing your true feelings and thoughts about the world outside and not worrying that it'll be shared without you knowing is a big relief. Writing down your most intimate imagination, biggest frustration and, jotting down your happiest thoughts can be a great way to release stress and pressure.
Fun fact, the best way to release your anger and frustration is by writing it on paper and crumpling and tearing the page into pieces afterward. It will help you release all those negative energies and stress at the same time.
Eat or do something you really Like;
Treating yourself to something you really like after a long week of stressful work and deadlines can actually help you reduce stress and release endorphins that can make you feel happy and accomplished. Of course, do this in moderation. A mani-pedi or a massage is a great way to relax and unwind. Buy yourself that hamburger and fries combo, having this at least once a month won't hurt. Remember, only do this when you really have accomplished something. Do not cheat on yourself, so you won't feel guilty or stressed for eating that combo.
Remember, we all deserve a break. It's enough that we have been beating ourselves at work while dealing with Covid19. We already have too much stress going on right now and letting it affect us negatively, will never help. Take the time to take care not just of your body, but also of your mind. There's only one you, and no one can take care of you if you won't take care of yourself.
